Talent Development SIG Presents:

Building Leadership Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a concept that has been around, in one form or another, for thousands of years. And today, as we experience an onslaught of stimulation brought to us by technology and the demands of often increasingly frenetic lives, some of us wish for a way to just pause—to slow down enough to restore our equilibrium, to focus, and to become more purposeful and effective as leaders, team members and even humans!

Steve Safier and Deborah Brown, consultants with Korn Ferry, will introduce us to Mindfulness through a broad ranging discussion and some deceptively fun and easy exercises.  We will explore ways that corporations can incorporate mindfulness into their leadership programs and, ultimately, build stronger organizational growth for the future.

Steve Safier, Ph.D, Senior Client Partner, Korn Ferry Hay Group

Steve Safier is a trusted advisor and coach to Boards of Directors, executive leadership and employee teams.  Steve began his business career consulting for HayGroup, a role he performed for nearly 20 years, and led HayGroup’s US Financial Services practice in addition to consulting to clients in other sectors.  As Chief Operating Officer, Steve led a team charged with building out the marketing and advertising capability for quick service restaurants around the world. He had accountability for Finance, Legal, HR, IT, Governance, Facilities, Internal Communications, and Meetings. Steve also has other significant executive experience. He joined a well-known international electronics company, first as Chief Transformation and Human Resources Officer, and then as President of the Health and Wellness Solutions business. Steve has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, and enjoys speaking to audiences, including HR and other professionals, graduate and college students, about implementing business strategy through organizational structure, role clarity and personal and team behavior.

Deborah Brown, Managing Principal & Associate Client Partner, Korn Ferry Hay Group

Deborah Brown has over 20 years’ experience helping leaders navigate the complexities they face, including increasing scope of roles, leading teams, leading globally, visioning, and influencing.  Previously she was a managing director at Growth Leaders. She has also held internal consulting and senior leadership roles with Bell Laboratories, ORC (now Mercer), Lee Hecht Harrison, and Catalyst.  Deborah has taught Spirituality in the Workplace among several other courses as an adjunct professor at NYU.  Ms. Brown holds a master’s in organizational psychology from the University of Illinois, Chicago and a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Loyola University, Chicago.
